Welcome! Before any code, here is the plan: what you will learn, in what order, and how to get the most out of every lecture.
Contents
Objectives · Lesson · Common Mistakes · Practice Questions · Answers · Takeaways
Learning Objectives
- Know what Dart Basic covers and what comes after it
- See the day-by-day plan
- Know how each lecture is laid out
- Have a study routine that works
1. What This Course Is
Dart Basic teaches the Dart language from zero. No programming experience is needed, and there is no Flutter yet — we write small programs that print to the terminal, so all your attention goes to the language.
When you finish, Dart Advanced continues with advanced OOP, generics, async programming, isolates, packages and testing — and then Flutter is the natural next step.
2. The Plan, Day by Day
| Day | Topic |
|---|---|
| 1 | Course introduction |
| 2 | What Dart is, setup (DartPad & IntelliJ), Hello World, comments |
| 3 | Variables, data types, final & const |
| 4 | Strings, interpolation, null safety |
| 5 | Lists (1-D, 2-D, 3-D), where, maps |
| 6 | if, if-else, else-if ladder, nested if |
| 7 | Ternary ?:, if-null ??, switch |
| 8 | Loops: for, for-in, forEach, while, do-while, nested |
| 9 | break, continue, labels |
| 10 | Functions and every kind of parameter |
| 11 | Classes, objects, constructors, this |
| 12 | Singleton, getters & setters, static |
| 13 | Exception handling, custom exceptions |
| 14 | Lambdas, higher-order functions, closures |
After Day 14 come the presentation topics — shorter lectures (inheritance, polymorphism,
enums, async/await, generators and more) that students present to the class.
3. How Each Lecture Works
Every lecture has the same parts:
| Part | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Learning Objectives | what you can do by the end |
| Lesson | the idea, explained in small steps with short code |
| Code Examples | a complete program and the exact output it prints |
| Common Mistakes | the errors beginners hit, and the fix |
| Practice Questions + Answers | check yourself — try before you peek |
| Key Takeaways | the lecture in four lines |
4. How to Study
- Type the code yourself. Don't copy and paste — typing is how syntax sticks.
- Run it and compare with the output in the article.
- Break it on purpose. Remove a
;, misspell a name — read the error message. - Answer the practice questions before reading the answers.
- One day at a time. Each day builds on the one before.
Common Beginner Mistakes
1. Only watching or reading. Programming is learned with your hands. Type every example.
2. Skipping ahead. Day 10's functions use Day 3's variables and Day 8's loops. If something feels confusing, the answer is usually in an earlier lecture.
Practice Questions
- Does Dart Basic use Flutter?
- Which day covers loops?
- What should you do before reading a lecture's practice answers?
Practice Answers
- No — pure Dart, printed to the terminal.
- Day 8.
- Try to answer the questions yourself.
Key Takeaways
- Dart Basic teaches pure Dart from zero; Dart Advanced comes next.
- The course runs day by day, from setup to closures, then presentation topics.
- Every lecture has a lesson, a full example, mistakes, practice and takeaways.
- Type, run, break and fix the code — that is how it sticks.
